Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Saturday visited the northeastern town of Satoraljaujhely to review efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Orban visited a prison equipped with a Chinese mask making machine which can manufacture 2.8 million masks a month.

Prison officers told Orban all inmates at the institution, even those in preliminary detention, have been recruited to sew masks.

Orban also visited a town hospital equipped with 13 beds in the ICU unit to treat COVID-19 patients.

Six beds are equipped with ventilators and seven with anaesthetic machines, which, with limitations, can also be used as ventilators.

Next week, Orban is expected to announce measures amounting to 18-20% of GDP to counter the economic effects of the pandemic.

As of Saturday, Hungary has reported a total of 678 confirmed virus cases and 32 deaths.
