World's safest cities: Mumbai ranks 45, Delhi 52, Tokyo tops list

World's Safest cities list revealed on Monday that Mumbai has been ranked 45 and Delhi as 52 on the overall world's cities list, while Tokyo tops the list.

World's safest cities list revealed on Monday that Mumbai has been ranked 45 and Delhi as 52 on the planet. The list ranks a total of 60 countries from the world across the five continents. Further, it revealed that on the parameters of personal security, Mumbai and Delhi were ranked 37 and 41 in the order. Six cities from the Asia-Pacific region have made it into the top 10 safest cities with Japanese capital Tokyo topping it. The Economist Intelligence Unit carries out the World's Safest Cities survey.

Adding the cities worldwide and expanding in size and number, a balance between the connectivity, safety and privacy is extremely important for the governments, the private sectors and citizens, stated a report. Taking this into consideration, a discussion was held at the Safe Cities Summit in Singapore between policymakers, business leaders, and industry experts.

Walter Lee on safety 

The Evangelist and Government Relations Leader in the Global Safety Division of the NEC Corporation, Walter Lee pointed out that one of the main elements, in order to make a city safer, is to secure the digital identity of the citizens in cyber and physical space. Further, Tetsuro Akagi, the CEO of NEC Asia Pacific, stated that his company strongly believes in contributing to the societies and communities across the Asia Pacific by improving upon technologies pertaining to networking, computing, and Artificial Intelligence.

The Summit 

According to reports, the discussions ranged from urban living, protecting digital security, climate resilience, police enforcement, and so on. The final list was divided into four categories- Digital security, health security, infrastructure security and personal security. Tokyo has topped the list in digital security, while Mumbai and Delhi are on 47. Osaka has topped the list in the health security category, followed by Tokyo. Mumbai and Delhi are ranked on 50 and 51. Further, Singapore has topped the infrastructure and personal security category.
