The U.S. Air Force has positioned two B-52 bombers in Qatar to support the American withdrawal from Afghanistan. Air Force photographs released on Friday show the bombers at Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The Pentagon also says it will keep the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Mideast to support the withdrawal.

The U.S. had been sending B-52s into the region to act as what they described as a deterrent to Iran amid tensions with Tehran over the collapse of its nuclear deal. Negotiations over the accord are now ongoing in Vienna. The withdrawal of more than 10,000 U.S. and coalition troops is set to start in May.
