Two days after Imran Khan was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) downplayed his speech given by the newly elected Prime Minister in the National Assembly. While mounting a scathing attack on Imran Khan, Syed Khursheed said that 'the address did not match the stature of a premier of the country'. 

"Ostensibly, Khan's speech gives the impression that India's Lalu Prasad Yadav is his political mentor", he said. 

Earlier, while addressing the National Assembly, Khan was accused of losing his temper after the opposition leaders created a ruckus and staged a sit-in in the lower house of the Pakistan Parliament. 

Asserting that he did not expect such an 'irresponsible behaviour' from the cricketer-turned-politician, Shah further said, "If this is Naya Pakistan, then God may have mercy upon us."

In his maiden address to the nation a day after his swearing in as the country’s 22nd Prime Minister, Imran Khan outlined his governments approach to resolve the issues like austerity measures, working on tax reforms instead of taking loans and rooting out corruption. He also focused on revamping the judiciary, educational and health care reforms. 

While mounting a scathing attack on the PML(N) government for current debt crisis, Imran Khan said,“Never in Pakistan’s history have we faced such difficult economic circumstances. Our debt burden is Rs 28 trillion. We haven’t been as indebted in our entire history as we have been in the last ten years".

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan was sworn-in as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan at 10:10 am on Saturday. He took oath in the presence of Pak President Mamnoon Hussain at Islamabad. Imran had received 176 votes in his favor, as compared to 96 for his nearest rival, Shehbaz Sharif, President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), on Friday in the National Assembly.
