After failing to convince the international community to stand with it on the issue of Kashmir, Pakistan has in a sense admitted its diplomatic drubbing. The statement comes at the backdrop of the Pakistan government's efforts to highlight the Kashmir issue once again after it had unsuccessful innings at the United Nations. Addressing a press conference Pakistan's minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Mr Ali Amin Khan Gandapur accepted that the country has not conducted diplomacy on Kashmir in the way it should have been, leading to the apathy of the international community. Having asked why the country has not seen its foreign allies standing with it, the minister said that the diplomacy on Kashmir has not been done “in a good way”.

With major global superpowers rejecting Pakistan's claims on Kashmir, the Minister accused India of attempting to weaken it. He said that while Pakistan was raising the issue of the Kashmiris and their human rights, India has been trying to “weaken Pakistan” and that his country will once again approach its friends and partners across the globe for their cooperation.

He also added that the government of Pakistan was in touch with the people marching towards the Line Of Control (LOC), while also adding that the government understood the “sentiments” of the people who have friends on the other side. Earlier the spokesperson for India's ministry of foreign affairs Raveesh Kumar had criticised the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan as he called his support for Kashmir as “jihad”.

'Imran Khan not good at international relations'

After returning from the US, Khan had said that his country would keep supporting Kashmir regardless of the response from the global community as it was “jihad” and they would continue to do so for making “Allah happy”. In response, Mr Kumar took on Imran Khan for his “provocative and irresponsible statements” and questioned his style of conducting international relations. He opined Khan did not “know how to conduct international relationships” and his call for “an open jihad against India” was “not normal”.

This is not the first time that a Pakistan Minister has admitted its failure on Kashmir. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, just before his speech at the United Nations in New York, had expressed his disappointment with the leading countries. He had said that he was not very “optimistic” about achieving anything from his speech at the UN and that the world did not realise that it was all leading to a “disaster”.
