Trucks were seen passing through the Torkham crossing in Khyber district, Pakistan on Saturday as the country's paramilitary soldiers and a Taliban fighter stood guard on their respective sides.

Pakistan's interior minister said Torkham and Chaman border crossing points were open for cross-border trade and that hundreds of trucks pass through daily.

But hundreds of trade trucks remained parked at the Torkham border waiting for clearance to cross.

Traders fear insecurity on the roads, confusion over customs duties and pressures to price their goods even higher given the economic conditions.

Gulab Khan, a Pakistani truck driver, said he had been stranded for eighteen days but he was looking forward to going home.

In the current situation in Afghanistan, pedestrian movement has been limited at Torkham border, with only stranded people from both sides and trucks taking goods to Afghanistan passing through.
