Use of drones banned in Islamabad for 2 months ahead of 'Azadi March'

The local administration of Islamabad has banned the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones in the city for two months

The local administration of Islamabad has banned the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones in the city for two months. The order issued by the District Magistrate of Islamabad on October 30 comes out of fear of sabotaging the security in the city during the anti-government protests, 'Azadi March'. According to the authorities, the UAVs also impose a questionable security situation in the Islamabad Capital Territory as it can be used by the miscreants for the conduction of terrorist acts. The area of protests has already been secured and safeguarded against ground attacks.

The certain segment operates UAVs

According to the order issued by the District Magistrate, a certain segment of the society operates drones in Islamabad which pose a threat to the security and increases the level of uncertainties. Any terrorist attack would jeopardise the security of the citizens in the city and other sensitive installations would create law and order situation and threat to the public at large. The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has also said that the ban is imposed for two months on all kinds of UAVs even the remote-controlled aircraft. During the 'Azadi March' the use of cameras on drones would also be strictly prohibited to shoot the coverage.

Azadi March

The opposition parties of the Imran Khan government has called a protest march called 'Azadi March' on October 31. The rally will be lead by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman, the right-wing politician. Other major political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif who is currently in jail and the Pakistan Peoples Party of former president Asif Ali Zardari.

The JUI-F workers will also go to Islamabad for the protest and have been asked to bring nearly 3,000 workers each from their own cities to take part in the protest. The opposition accuses that Imran Khan's government has come into power through rigged elections and will also be responsible for lakhs of people participating in the streets. Reportedly, the Azadi March will also outnumber the '2014 dharna' arranged by Tehreek-e-Insaf and the government officials were also planning to call in the Pakistani army for support in Islamabad.
