8 Islamic State terrorists killed in coalition airstrikes in Iraq

As per reports, eight Islamic State militants have been killed on September 28 in the Iraqi province of Salahudin in a US-led coalition airstrike. The country's situation has been improving after it managed to defeat the Islamic State at the end of 2017.

'Acted on intelligence inputs'

According to reports, the operation was based on intelligence inputs due to which the joint force from Salahudin's Operations Command supported by the Iraqi and US-led coalition aircraft conducted an operation to track down the IS terrorists in a desert area near the west provincial capital of Tikrit. A statement released by the media office of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) said. 

The statement said that during operation, the coalition aircraft struck Islamic State hideouts and killed eight terrorists with forces destroying four of their hideouts of which one was booby-trapped. The terrorists were using the hideouts as warehouses for a variety of supplies. The report suggested that operation had ensued the destruction of an Islamic State shelter, three pick-up vehicles and a truck.

Iraq situation improving

The situation in Iraq has been improving drastically after country's security forces hammered the extremist Islamic State terrorists through length and breadth of the country in the latter half of the year of 2017, it was then reported that ISIS had lost all strategic foothold in Iraq. The group's fringe elements have since settled in urban areas or have enclosed themselves in Iraqi deserts, rocky and dry areas as safe havens due to which they carry out periodic hit-and-run attacks against country's security forces and civilians.
