Iran said on Tuesday it has sentenced eight environmental activists to between four and ten years in prison for charges of collaborating with the US government.

Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili said the activists will remain in prison and return the money they "received from the government of America.. which is considered a hostile government."

The eight environmental activists were detained in Iran in January and February 2018 and had remained in prison without clear charges according to Human Rights Watch.
