New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Monday the country had reached another "vaccine milestone". Speaking to reporters in Wellington Ardern said more than five million coronavirus vaccines had now been administered in New Zealand.

She added 43% of the population eligible to be jabbed was now fully vaccinated. Ardern urged people to become "vaccine influencers" and encourage others around them to get their jabs. "We can each help encourage at least one other person to get vaccinated and every vaccine counts," she said. New Zealand recorded 12 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country to 1,177, officials said.
