Hundreds of stones with names of victims of the pandemic in Argentina were placed in front of the Government House on Monday as a sign of protest. The stones representing some of the nearly 110,000 victims of COVID-19 were also placed in front of the presidential residence. The so-called "march of the stones" was organised through social media after a photograph of President Alberto Fernandez celebrating First Lady Fabiola Yáñez's birthday went viral.

In the photograph, the president is seen with a dozen guests at the presidential residence a year ago, when a strict lockdown was in force. Argentina was the first country in the region to start vaccinating its citizens. But almost 110,000 people have died from the virus.
