She wears a wide smile as she sits next to her little nephew playing a video game. It was their "final, joyful moment" before horror dawned upon them.

In a digital painting, an artist captured the final moment of the black Texas woman who was shot dead in her home by a white cop while she was playing video games with her nephew. The painting by artist Nikkolas Smith depicting 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson's last happy moments went viral after the artist shared it on his social media handle. Speaking to a foreign media outlet, Smith told that instead of capturing her killing, he painted the video game scene since he wanted to capture the humanity of the victim.

Tugging at the heartstrings

Ever since Smith posted the image on his Instagram account about a week ago, it has been garnering a lot of appreciation. Speaking about his painting, he said that he "wanted to paint the last thing pre-Med graduate Atatiana Jefferson was doing before she was killed by the cops". He also wrote in his post that this case adds up to the list of things that black people are not allowed to do in their homes.

The painting has tugged many Instagrammers' hearts who called the painting "beautiful and heartbreaking all at once." While one user called it, "Beautiful tribute for a sad story!", another wrote, "No words. Nothing but love to you". Pouring words appreciation for the painting, another user commented, "Beautiful and powerful are the words that come to mind seeing this".

The post has over 21K likes and around 700 comments on Instagram.

"Blacks are always singled out"

Through his post, Smith tried to shed light on something which is often ignored which it comes to an African-American. He mentioned the victim's educational qualification not to portray that the lives of educated people mattered more, but because the education aspect is generally not highlighted in black lives. He said that the blacks are singled out only because of their skin colour. He feels that his art is a tool to fight such mindsets and wishes to bring reform with his artworks.
