Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with his Canadian counterpart, Marc Garneau, during an online 'virtual visit' Friday.

The two top diplomats praised the close relationship between the two North American countries.

"This is a particularly important time as we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic," Garneau said.

"Both Canadians and Americans have been impacted by this pandemic and have suffered losses and face many challenges in this crisis," he said. "Now is not the time for our two nations to turn inward."

President Joe Biden recently spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudea and both top diplomats praised the Roadmap for Renewed U.S.-Canada Partnership.

The White House describes it as blueprint for a joint effort to combat COVID-19, climate change, along with cooperation on defense, plus a shared commitment to diversity, equity, and justice.

"It's hard to think of of two countries whose whose destinies are more connected, more intertwined than ours, Binken said.
