U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry as world leaders reconvene in New York this week at the U.N. General Assembly.

The two sides were expected to discuss a range of bilateral economic and security issues.

According to the State Department, Egypt is the United States' largest export market in Africa, with U.S. exports that include wheat and corn, machinery, aircraft, and iron and steel products.

U.S. imports from Egypt include apparel, natural gas and oil, fertilizers, textiles, and agricultural products.

The State Department says Egypt is positioning itself as a regional energy hub, rapidly boosting renewable energy production, further offering potential opportunities for U.S. firms. In November 2022, Egypt will host the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP-27) climate change conference in Sharm el-Sheikh.
