As a heated debate on Brexit was going on in the parliament, under the leadership of new UK PM Boris Johnson, British MP Rees-Mogg's was captured stretching out across the front bench in the House of Commons. Anna Turley, the labor MP, shared Rees-Mogg's slouching posture picture on Twitter, stating that his actions were arrogant and disrespectful in reference to the parliament.
The pro-Brexit politician is now being criticized over his careless action during the debate, while other MPs discussed plans to prevent a no-deal Brexit. The politician in his double-breasted suit was seen relaxing during the most crucial minutes before a crunch Brexit vote, on Tuesday night where Johnson lost in the crunch votes. However, the failed votes to secure the deal didn’t bother the public as much as Rees-Mogg's sposture did.
The opposition politician, Anna Turley tweeted,
The physical embodiment of arrogance, entitlement, disrespect and contempt for our parliament. pic.twitter.com/XdnFQmkfCS— Anna Turley MP (@annaturley) September 3, 2019
Whereas MP Angela Rayner mocked Rees-Mogg by tweeting,
Jacob Rees-Mogg is almost lying down on the Tory front benches, l am half expecting his nanny to march into the chamber with a blanket, pillow and a hot cup of Horlicks for the poor man! 😳— Angela Rayner 🌈 (@AngelaRayner) September 3, 2019
As most were raging in anger by the politician’s obnoxious mannerism in the parliament, in the middle of a serious debate on Brexit, others trolled him in a humorous way. His slouching picture served as fodder for memes on Brexit, from traditional illustrations to failing of value in sterling, meme creators found uncanny resemblances.
Rees-Mogg was also called out by Green Party MP Caroline Lucas for his objectionable posture. She said that the leader of the house and his body language had been contemptuous of the House and the people. She also added that the leader of the House had spread across three seats, lying out as if that was something very boring for him to listen to.
