China: 4 people killed in explosion in chemical plant, 6 injured

China's local authorities reported a sudden explosion at a chemical plant in Southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region killing 4 people and six injured.

Local authorities reported a sudden explosion at a chemical plant in Southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on October 15. Four people have been reported dead and six were severely injured. The explosion took place at 11 am in the morning in a chemical plant situated at Luchuan County. The regional emergency management department reported the blast to the global media. 

Explosion in China’s chemical factory

Two people were seriously injured and four of them sustained minor injuries. The investigation team reported that a reaction occurred in the kettle used for the synthesis of formaldehyde and phenol which exploded inside the plant. The blast caused the release of five tonnes for toxic chemicals from the reactor. Investigation continues at the sight of blast and the overall financial loss is being calculated. The rescue operation is still going on. More updates on the blast are awaited.

Aftermath of the explosion

The chemical factory could be seen turned into debris in photos released by local media. The interior of the factory was completely destroyed, only the exterior structure of the factory was left. There were eight fire brigades and 38 firefighters who were deployed on the scene.

The Yancheng explosion

Earlier this year, an explosion in the chemical plant situated in Yancheng led to the death of 78 people and more than 600 people were reported injured. The blast occurred at the Jiangsu Tianjiayi Chemical plant in Xiangshui county, eastern China on March 21, 2019. It was recorded the deadliest industrial explosion of all time in China. Reports showed the evacuation of 3000 people from the site. The tests conducted by the local environmentalist proved that contamination of river water flowing through the industrial park. The company executives were detained and the chemical factory faced charges for the violation of safety measures. The incident led to nationwide inspections concerning the lack of safety provisions in the chemical factories.
