New research conducted abroad has revealed that couples who own a dog are happier than those who don't. 

'Dogs make romantic relationships stronger'

There have been innumerable case studies that show that dogs bring joy and happiness to one’s life.The recent study , conducted by Rover.com claimed that dogs can make romantic relationships stronger. According to the study, 60 percent of the couples who owned a dog said that taking care of a dog together made their bond stronger.

'Raising a dog together builds teamwork and trust'

The people who participated in the survey said that because of their canine friends, the couple was able to spend more quality time together which helped in establishing a better understanding of one another. The survey revealed that raising a dog requires a lot of teamwork and trust. About 88 percent of the couples agreed that raising a dog together helps build teamwork, while 65 percent agreed that  it also helps develop trust. Moreover, these are crucial ingredients for a sustainable relationship. Interestingly, many revealed that they started admiring their partners more after they owned a dog and took responsibility of raising them together.

'Dogs can be deal-breakers in case the person is not dog-friendly'

On the other hand, some couples said that their privacy was affected as the dog shared the space. While a majority percentage of the population agreed that dogs are important in strengthening romantic relationships, 36 percent of the couples felt that it might hinder relationships in case the person they are with is not dog-friendly.

'Having a Dog can increase life span'

According to a study published in the journal ''Circulation'' on October 8, owning a dog can have an impact on the life expectancy of a person, especially those who have suffered from cardio vascular ailments. Medical experts claim that social isolation is a major risk factor that results in terminal illness aned premature deaths and dogs help enhance social interaction, increase physical activity and metabolism. It also contributes to mental well-being.
