Over a thousand crew members of cruise ships anchored off the coast of Sydney have been transferred to other vessels to take them home.

Police have been restocking five ships - Spectrum of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas, Celebrity Solstice, Voyager of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas - with food and medicine for the past five days.

On Saturday, police moved the more than 1,300 crew members still on board.

There are no passengers left on board any of the ships and their crews had been held on the ships under quarantine.

Spectrum of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas departed early on Saturday afternoon. The other three ships are due to depart in the evening.

At the end of March, the Australian Border Force ordered all cruise ships to leave Australian waters before June 15 or face stiff penalties, including up to five years jail or an AUD 63,000  (37,774 US dollar) fine.
