Red rivers of lava and orange smoke erupted on Wednesdy from the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.

Regional officials say the eruption could affect nearby rivers and lead to the destruction of roads.

However, Dmitry Melnikov, a scientist from Russia's Far Eastern Institute of volcanology and seismology told the AP that the volcano's intensity was "fading".

Eruptions of the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano aren't rare, and the last eruption was observed in 2020.

The Klyuchevskaya Sopka reaches a height of 4,649 metres.
