Ministry asks to elaborate on the issue

The Dubai Police asked Sarkar to reach out to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). The Ministry then gave assurance to help on the matter and asked Sarkar to elaborate on the issue raised. MOHRE said that it is illegal for an employer to hold the passport.

“Thank you @DubaiPoliceHQ  for reaching us out, we will definitely assist in that matter. Hello Mr Sarkar, can you elaborate more about the passport holding part and confirm if it holded by the employer as it's illegal to hold the employee passport and you can raise a complaint,” tweeted MOHRE from its official account.

Visa expired more than a year ago

Sarkar told the Ministry that his visa expired more than a year ago and his boss kept his passport at the Dubai Land Department in 2016. A user asked for a thorough investigation in the case and said that such cases bother the expats. The user also asked Dubai police about the process to check if there is any unauthorized bank application made under their name.

“Kindly note that you need to contact Dubai Land Department for the passport claiming process,” said the Ministry.
