Dutch Police puts bird behind bars, after owner busted for shoplifting

An adorable post on Instagram by the Dutch police went viral wherein they posted a picture of a little parrot ‘locked up’ alone in a Dutch police cell.

An adorable post on Instagram by the Dutch police went viral wherein they posted a picture of a little parrot ‘locked up’ alone in a Dutch police cell. As soon as the picture went viral on social media, netizens acknowledged the bird as the 'jailbird'. The post on September 30, amused that netizens pulled in a whirlwind of chirpy remarks on social media. 

'Jailbird'

The Instagram post revealed that the Dutch police arrested a man under suspicion of shoplifting in the central Dutch city of Utrecht. The man was accompanied by the little bird who was found nestled on his shoulder. The police said that the local law enforcement had no arrangements to keep the bird. Therefore, while the man was being cross-questioned the feathered felon was locked up inside the Dutch cell. It was also known, that the jailed bird was provided with a sandwich and water.

The lonely bird’s photograph was posted by the Dutch police which was later edited by a local newspaper. It later reworked on the picture putting a black bar over the eyes of the bird to 'protect' its identity from being disclosed. The police officer in the post said that they recently arrested a suspect in a shoplifting case. Also, during the arrest, they found a secret witness with feathers and a beak sitting on suspects' shoulders. The police further told the netizens that the department realized that they did not have a bird cell, adding that the little bird was properly taken care of.

Jail bird amuses Netizens

The post led to contemplations and assumptions about the identity of the winged suspect. According to the Police, it was a Parakeet, but the people commented calling the bird a dwarf parrot. The picture was taken up by a local newspaper and later became viral on social media.
