St John's Cathedral (Anglican) in Brisbane was almost empty as it celebrated Easter Friday mass, with only the clergy and the camera crews present.

Masses have been celebrated across Australia this Friday while observing enforced isolation rules because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Friday's service at St John's was streamed online.

Where others use a simple web camera, the cathedral had multiple professional cameras on tripods and a control room next to the altar to switch from one camera to the next while transmitting the mass live on the internet.

Online religious celebrations will continue to be on offer in Australia while the self isolation rules apply.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.

The vast majority of people recover.
