The central Chinese city of Wuhan and other parts of Hubei province where the new virus outbreak first emerged in December remain under lockdown. More than 80% of the country's cases are in Hubei, where the death toll has also been higher than in the rest of the nation.

China's Central Television (CCTV) said authorities announced after launching a campaign last week of screening people in order to curb the spread of the contagion, the city has reached its targets. All diagnosed patients have been collected, all suspected patients and people in close contact with them have been isolated and tested, officials said.

The city's more than 7,000 residential areas have been locked down for 24 hours a day since the government issued the order one week ago, and 355 road entrances to the city have been completely sealed, CCTV said.Residents are not allowed to walk out of their compounds without permission from the local community offices.

Food and other daily necessities have to be ordered and delivered by government-assigned distributors to the residents.Community workers conduct screening checks on the residents in their areas and make sure anyone with suspected symptoms such as fever are moved to isolation points immediately, CCTV said.

CCTV also showed pictures of the big-data centre of Wuhan's police headquarters where data from telecom operators, hospitals, disease control centers are integrated to form comprehensive indicators of population flows and targeted crowds.Authorities said the city is now able to conduct nucleic acid tests on 20,000 people and from February 22, all the people sent to isolation points can be tested on the same day. China's Politburo made up of senior officials of the ruling Communist Party, cautioned Friday that while the epidemic has been "preliminarily contained," the country has yet to see a turning point.
