Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited businesses in the port city of Piraeus on Monday, as cafes and restaurants re-opened and regular ferry services to the islands resumed.

Greece is continuing to ease it coronavirus restrictions as the country accelerates efforts to salvage its tourism season.

Mitsotakis bumped elbows with cafe customers and told local businessmen that people's optimism will trickle into the marketplace.

Greece has been on lockdown since late March, with a gradual relaxation of measures taking place over the course of a few weeks.

The country's low infection rate in the virus pandemic has prompted the government to start the holiday season earlier than expected.

Distancing regulations and passenger limits have been imposed on ferries and at restaurants.
