'Political intepretation'
During the 2018 world cup, Gündogan posed for the pictures with a teammate, Mesut Ozil along with President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan which was also deleted by the player admitting that the post was open to misinterpretation. While talking to an international agency, the Manchester City player, yet again confessed that the reason for him to 'unlike' the image of Turkish footballers was that his action could have been 'interpreted politically'. The 28-year-old player also believes that after being on the receiving end of the criticism back in 2018, he does not want to give any political signals.
