Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Tuesday that she is not considering lifting quarantine requirements for arrivals from mainland China.

Hong Kong hospital beds are nearly running out and she said 400 beds will be available soon to cope with the influx of patients affected by COVID-19.

Hong Kong experienced a spike in cases in the past week, most are imported from abroad as people and students rush to return home from higher risk places such as Europe and the United States.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could lead to death.
