Hong Kong activist Agnes Chow was released on bail late on Tuesday after being held in custody for approximately 24 hours.

Chow was one of 10 people arrested by Hong Kong police on Monday in connection with the new national security law imposed by Beijing.

"The political persecution this time was very ridiculous", Chow told reporters outside Tai Po Police Station upon her release.

She added that her conditions of bail included reporting regularly to police and giving up her passport.

Chow is also facing prosecution that predates the new law, for her part in the pro-democracy protests last year.

She has pleaded guilty to that.

Hong Kong's Justice Department and police have not made clear exactly why Chow was arrested, apart from vague allegations about collusion with foreigners.
