Media tycoon Jimmy Lai was released on bail in Hong Kong early on Wednesday (Tuesday GMT).

Lai, his two sons and others from the company were detained on Monday under the new national security law.

An aide to Lai said they were suspected of collusion with a foreign power, which the law criminalises.

Their detention reinforced fears that the new law would be used to suppress dissent in Hong Kong after months of anti-government protests.

Lai's pro-democracy tabloid newspaper the Apple Daily is renowned for its condemnation of China's authoritarian rule.
