A 17-day-old newborn diagnosed with a new virus was treated and discharged from hospital on Friday, China's Central Television reported (CCTV).

She has become the youngest person to recover from the virus in Wuhan, according to CCTV.

When she was born on February 5, her mother was diagnosed with the disease and the baby was immediately sent to Wuhan Children's Hospital.

CCTV said on February 9, the newborn tested positive for the virus and her CT image also showed features of the disease.

Zeng Lingkong, Director of Neonatology at Wuhan Children's Hospital, said the hospital used "supportive therapies" to allow the newborn to recover by herself while she wasn't presenting "obvious symptoms."

"A lot of medicines don't have the clear guidelines for the usage on new born children," he said.

China said on Saturday that the daily count of new virus cases in the country fell significantly to 397, though another 109 people died of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.

The total number of cases in mainland China was 76,288, on Saturday with 2,345 recorded deaths.
