Israeli President meets Nancy Pelosi

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin met Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives in Jerusalem on Thursday.

The meeting comes ahead of the largest ever commemoration of the Holocaust, with more than 40 dignitaries expected to attend.

World leaders attending the event include Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, Britain's Prince Charles, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and the presidents of Germany, Italy and Austria.

The event will take place at Jerusalem's Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial on Thursday ahead of 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January.

Entitled "Remembering the Holocaust: Fighting Antisemitism", the commemoration will also focus on  highlighting the global spike in anti-Jewish violence in the continent and around the world.

Pelosi's visit comes as the impeachment trial of US President Donald Trump continues in Washington.
