Israel's military has deployed hundreds of troops to assist police in enforcing health regulations meant to stem the spread of coronavirus.

Soldiers and police set up roadblocks to inspect cars and ask motorists why they left their houses.

Israel has ordered citizens to venture no further than 100 meters from their homes, except for essential trips to supermarkets or drug stores.

The country has reported more than 5,000 infections, and 21 deaths.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could lead to death.
