The government of Japan is all set to allocate a whopping $170 million to the war-stricken Ukraine, which will be used for emergency recovery projects. On Wednesday, the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure released a statement in which they asserted that the funds will be used to repair critical infrastructure. The ministry also revealed that humanitarian assistance from Japan will also include the provision of goods and services that are necessary for the recovery of the conflict-stricken country.

In the Wednesday statement, Oleksandr Kurbrakov, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, asserted that the reconstruction and restoration of critical infrastructure is an “undisputed priority”, as the Ukrainian forces are struggling to deal with the wrath of Russian forces. “The support of our partners is extremely valuable and necessary. Thank you to our Japanese partners for helping us with the restoration projects,” Kubrakov asserted. “This is a necessary step for returning Ukrainians to their homes and supporting economic development in the regions,” he added. The Ukrainian Minister of infrastructure also expressed his hopes that in the future such assistance can lead to investment in several long-term projects. “We expect that after the victory we will be able to quickly move on to the implementation of long-term investment projects" Kubrakov commented.

The support decision will be finalised soon

In the Wednesday statement, the Ministry of Infrastructure revealed that the decision by the Japanese government will be soon finalised after the Ukrainian administration signs a grant agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It recalled how the Japanese administration pledged to allocate $95 million for the reconstruction of Ukraine, earlier this month. It further said the funds will be allocated through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a part of a partnership agreement.
