In Japan, working women have raised their voice against prescriptive beauty standards and started a movement, 'Glasses Ban' for their right to wear eyeglasses at work. The hashtag of the movement started trending on the micro-blogging site Twitter on November 5. The women were triggered after a report on Japanese channel about companies asking female employees to wear contact lenses in order to look 'more feminine' and 'approachable'.

Outrage on Twitter
The revelation led to massive outrage on Twitter as people stood together against the 'irrational' standards created for young women. One of the internet users also said that the movement 'glasses ban' is a clear example of 'how society can improve' and let go of the social problems. Most people called it 'absurd' as glasses are a part of a person's necessity and some companies are relating it to beauty. Females were also seen posting their images with eyeglasses on, saying they 'definitely look as approachable as they do without them'.

I once had keratitis in both eyes (infection of the cornea). Ophthalmologists told me very firmly never to wear contacts again. I still occasionally do, years later, but not 24/7 like I used to. What are these women supposed to do?! #Glassesban

'Ku Too' Movement
The 'Glasses Ban' is the second movement started by the people followed by the 'Ku Too' which was about female employees standing against the requirement of wearing heels to work. Earlier, this year, the #KuToo was sparked by Japanese actor and writer Yumi Ishikawa to criticize the rule. In March, the females voiced their disagreement with companies asking women to wear makeup at work.
