Kurdish authorities performed tests for the new coronavirus on those arriving at Qamishli's domestic airport from Damascus.

Medics and security teams set up a mobile testing facility at a roundabout outside of the airport and examined the returning passengers.

Mohammed Abdul-Aziz, the co-president of the health department in Kurdish-run northeastern Syria, said all passengers tested negative.

The plane that landed was carrying military servicemen from Damascus along with civilians.

Qamishli's airport is under the control of the Syrian government.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could lead to death.
