As Mexico's president announced a return to a "new normal" amid the COVID-19 outbreak, it's still unclear to some residents of the capital how they will resume their pre-pandemic lives.

Early Monday, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador kicked off the return to the "new normal" with the nation beginning to gradually ease some virus-inspired restrictions.

The gradual easing takes place as Mexico is nearing 100,000 confirmed infections and nearly 10,000 deaths, both considered to be undercounts.

Residents like Sara Arcos, who is an independent worker in Mexico City, said it will be challenging for people but remains hopeful that they will be able to adapt.

"It will be very, very hard," she said. "But as good Mexicans, we have always risen."

Although construction is one of the industries allowed to resume in this new stage, worker Renato Rivera says they haven't been called to work yet.

He admits he is afraid to get back to work but he needs to, as he has no other source of income.

With drums and holding banners, a group of street artists marched to demand help from the government as they depend on open social activities and have been almost three months without performing.

Some companies, such as breweries, have enlisted to start operating.

Mexico City government continues to recommend staying home and wearing masks if people go out.
