Mexico Americans organise funeral after attack from drug cartel gunmen

One of the remote farming communities in Mexico which are currently under strong security surveillance will organize the first funerals on November 7 for nine American women and children who were assassinated by the drug cartel gunmen. The funeral will be huge as there are several SUVs were seen coming from several places. 

Funeral to be attended by a huge number of people

The farming community is a resident to as many as 300 people, who have dual nationality of the US and Mexico. The people call themselves Mormon but hold no affiliation with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The funeral will be attended by more than 1000 visitors. The number of people attending was huge that at least one cow was killed to feed the crowd

Drug cartel gunmen started open firing in community

On November 4, the drug cartel gunmen started an open firing in the community. It is reported that the local police, the Mexican army, Sonora state police, and the National Guard, all were not present at the moment to protect the people from the massacre. Moreover, they reached eight hours after the incident took place. Steven Langford, mayor of La Mora where the incident took place informed international media that it was a massacre. Langford’s sister Christina Langford was also among the women who killed.

Rural people suffer violence from drug traffickers 

The Mayor also said that he thought the sudden killings would have a major impact on the people of the community. He further added that the situation has become worse in the region. With constant killings taking place, it is certain that the Mexican government has lost its control in such areas which are surrounded by the drug traffickers. There is grave violence in the rural areas and the people of the country are suffering due to lack of law enforcement. Therefore in several areas like the northern states of Chihuahua and Sonora people have formed community security committees.

Video of Ovidio Guzman arrest released

The Government of Mexico released a video on October 30, which disclosed the moment Mexican forces took the son of kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman into custody before they were ordered to release Ovidio Guzman, who has been accused of trafficking. The release was done in order to avoid an escalation leading to the bloodbath in the city.
