Mexico: Bar shot up in Salamanca, Guanajuato, 5 people killed

As per reports, a group of armed attackers have killed five people at a bar in the Mexican municipality of Salamance in the Guanajuato state. The attack happened at around 1:30 am. The Guanajuato state has largely remained peaceful but recently has seen an uptick in crime which was last witnessed two years ago. Meanwhile, politics has peaked with City government blaming State government that it is ignoring the seriousness of the situation.

Night shooting and the possible reason

Reports say that armed attackers stormed into the bar in the city centre at around 1:30 am and started shooting at customers and employees of the bar. The Salamanca Government meanwhile has confirmed the shooting incident saying that victims were shot before sunrise on October 10 but revealed no further details. 

Salamanca has recently witnessed the struggle between two groups of Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel and the Jalisco Nueva Generación for influence in the city. Meanwhile, the local government has accused the state government of ignoring the seriousness of the situation and said that differences should be set aside. Guanajuato has seen approximately 3,000 homicides alone which makes it the most violent state in the country. Justino Arriaga Rojas, Secretary Environment Commission of Mexico has tweeted regarding the incident.  His tweet in English reads, they kill 5 in the bar in Salamanca.

Crime and Guanajuato

Reports say that Guanajuato has largely remained a peaceful state with farming, industrial works and tourist destination serving as its core income. The killings, however, has seen an uptick with first eight months of this year witnessing 2,275 homicides which is almost 2.5 times the number witnessed two years ago.
