Dozens of Mexican women protested on Saturday against the murder of a young woman and a recent rise in the country's femicide rate.

25-year-old Ingrid Escamilla was killed and dismembered by a man she allegedly lived within Mexico City last week. In the northern city of Ciudad Juárez, protesters covered their heads and upper bodies with black plastic bags in a reenactment of a murder scene.

Other demonstrators at the protest also expressed their anger at a newspaper that published a leaked photograph of Escamilla's mutilated body and the crime scene. In 2019, 3,825 women were killed in Mexico, a 7% increase from 2018, according to government figures.
