A Syrian militant group released drone footage purportedly showing a suicide bomb attack from a vehicle travelling through a city east of Idlib on Thursday.

In the drone footage released by Ibaa News Agency, the media arm of Syrian group Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, a vehicle is seen driving before it explodes and several people, presumably militants, are then seen advancing into the town.

The news agency has claimed that the video was filmed in the village of Nairab, west of Saraqeb, where intense clashes have been taking place between rebel fighters and Syrian government forces.

Citizen journalist Taher al-Omar, who was embedded with the militants on the edge of the village, said the insurgents carried out the suicide attack with an armoured personnel carrier rigged with explosives.

The blast was also reported by the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitoring group.

The suicide attack happened amid a major push by Syrian government forces into Idlib, the last rebel-held area of Syria, in recent weeks.

The push has caused the displacement of more than a half-million people in just over two months.
