Looks like celestial objects have their own way of celebrating Halloween. With the spooky season upon us, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) shared a photo of the sun’s 2014 Halloween look on social media. The Sun looked a lot like a giant flaming jack-o'-lantern in the picture captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory.

NASA in a spooky mood for Halloween

On October 27, NASA shared the pictures of the Sun, which resembles a fiant burning Jack-o’-lantern, the famous Halloween Pumpkin. NASA claims that one can find a similarity between the Star, which is at the center of our solar system and a Pumpkin.

Sun resembles the jack-o’-lantern face

NASA posted the picture with a caption saying, “Even our star celebrates the spooky season — in 2014, active regions on the Sun created this jack-o'-lantern face, as seen in ultraviolet light by our Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite (sic)”. In the post, the US space organization explains why Sun looks like a Halloween Pumpkin. "The active regions in this image appear brighter because those are areas that emit more light and energy.  They are markers of an intense and complex set of magnetic fields hovering in the sun’s atmosphere, the corona. This image blends together two sets of extreme ultraviolet wavelengths at 171 and 193 Ångströms, typically colorized in gold and yellow, to create a particularly Halloween-like appearance," the space agency explained.

The Twitter post of NASA received over 2,000 likes and people have expressed their amazement at the usual site of Sun.

Launch of next-generation spacesuits

Recently, NASA previewed the next-generation spacesuit known as the Artemis spacesuits. There are two space suits, one of them is the prototype of the Orion Crew Survival Suit which is specifically designed for the launch and re-entry into space. Another spacesuit, called the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU), is designed to undertake the lunar mission which aims at exploring the South Pole of the Moon.
