Georgia is experiencing a surge in numbers of COVID-19 infections. It has reported 1,037 deaths per million people and more than a thousand infected daily, according to the John Hopkins University data. Only 1.2 percent of the population - 45,338 people - have been vaccinated to date.

Many fear that the concentration of people during the Easter celebrations will exacerbate the situation.

Despite the warning, social distancing was not observed in the majority of churches during the nighttime services.
