Passengers were on Thursday screened at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport for coronavirus after arriving on a flight from Taipei.

The illnesses from a newly identified pathogen first appeared last month in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the majority of mainland China's 571 cases of it have been reported.

Other cases have been reported in the Thailand, the United States, Japan and South Korea.

One case was confirmed in the southern Chinese territory of Hong Kong after one was earlier confirmed in Macao.
