Yenifer Paredes - the sister-in-law of Peru's President Pedro Castillo - was transferred Wednesday to the Chorrillos Women's Penitentiary in Lima.

Her transfer comes after a judge issued a sentence of two and a half years in prison for Paredes on August 28.

She is being investigated for her alleged participation in a corruption and money laundering criminal organization, of which the President and the first lady are also allegedly members.

Yenifer Paredes will remain imprisoned until February 9, 2025, said the judge.

The defendant's defense appealed the decision. Also, the prosecution is seeking three years of preventive imprisonment.

The defense appealed the decision.

The president has not made any statement. But on August 11, when Yenifer Paredes turned herself in to the justice system, he said, "they will get everything to continue beating my family, my parents, my siblings, it is part of the struggle, but they are not going to break me."
