PM to address ‘Sawasdee PM Modi’ community programme in Bangkok today

PM Modi on Saturday left for a three-day visit to Thailand where he is scheduled to address the Indian diaspora based there.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday left for a three-day visit to Thailand to participate in the ASEAN, East Asia and RCEP summits. During the course of his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to address the Indian diaspora based in Thailand. Prime Minister Modi also said that he is looking forward to connecting to the Indian diaspora.

PM Modi to address Indian diaspora

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said that the Indians living in Thailand have contributed in various spheres. Here's his tweet:

"Connecting with the Indian diaspora is something I always look forward to. At 6 PM IST this evening in Bangkok, I would interact with the Indian community based in Thailand. Their contributions to Thailand in various spheres are valuable."

In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also launch the commemorative coin, marking the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. He will also release of a Thai translation of Tamil classic Tirukkural, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Apart from the summits, PM Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with a number of other world leaders present in Bangkok.

He emphasised the importance of ASEAN-related Summits. He said that India's relation with ASEAN is built around the key pillars of connectivity, capacity-building, commerce and culture. The Prime Minister will review with ASEAN partners cooperative activities and examine plans for strengthening ASEAN and ASEAN-led mechanisms, enhancing connectivity (sea, land, air, digital and people-to-people), deepening economic partnerships, and expanding maritime cooperation. 

Meanwhile, the MEA had underscored the diplomatic importance of ASEAN nations. Ministry of External Affairs' Secretary (East) Vijay Thakur Singh on Thursday said that this will be Prime Minister Modi's seventh ASEAN-India summit and sixth East Asia Summit.

"Last year, in January, you would recall that India had hosted the 25th-anniversary commemorative summit of Indo-ASEAN in which all the 10 ASEAN leaders had participated. Then, the Delhi Declaration was adopted wherein it was agreed to further strengthen and deepen the ASEAN-India strategic partnership," she added.
