Polish officials have observed the 10th anniversary of presidential airplane crash in Smolensk, Russia, that killed all 96 people on board.

Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski paid homage to his twin brother Lech Kaczynski and all crash victims at the monument in Pilsudski Square in Warsaw.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and more than a dozen of ruling party's politicians also took part in the commemoration, despite the coronavirus restrictions banning gatherings of more than two people.

Speaker of the Sejm along with representatives of the opposition laid a wreath at a plaque commemorating the victims in the building of the Polish Parliament.

The crash happened on April 10, 2010, when a high-ranking state delegation was heading to Katyn to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the massacre of thousands of Polish officers imprisoned by the Soviets during World War II.
