Pope Francis urged Catholics to pray for homeless people during the coronavirus outbreak in Italy, saying the crisis highlights so many "hidden problems."

The Pope made the comments on Thursday at the Vatican City during a daily morning mass.

"In the newspaper, today, there is a photo that strikes the heart: so many homeless people in a city lying in a parking lot," he said.

With the most deaths of any country at more than 13,000, morgues overflowed in Italy with bodies and caskets piled up in churches, although experts drew hope that the spread was already slowing in the country.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could lead to death.
