The "Museum of the Portuguese Language" reopened Saturday in São Paulo, the city with the largest number of Portuguese speakers, after a fire ravaged the facility more than five years ago.

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, his counterpart from Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, and former Brazilian Presidents Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Michel Temer were present at the reopening.

The Portuguese Language museum was one of the most visited museums in the country.

About 260 million people around the world speak Portuguese.

The reconstruction, which was completed at the end of 2019, cost 85.8 million reais, the equivalent of about 16 million dollars, according to Governor João Doria.
