A huge crowd of mourners in the Iranian city of Kerman paid their respects on Tuesday to a top Iranian general killed in a US airstrike. The procession in his hometown was the final leg in the mourning of Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani that involved many parts of the country over a series of days.

On Monday, Soleimani's remains were taken to the capital, Tehran, and Qom for public mourning. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wept over the casket in Tehran as mourners - with reportedly a million in attendance - demanded retaliation for a slaying that's drastically raised tensions in the region.

Soleimani was killed on Friday in an air strike near Iraq's Baghdad International Airport, ordered by US President Donald Trump. Iran has threatened retaliation while Trump has said the US would strike 52 Iranian sites in response.
