Hundreds demonstrated on Friday in the Libyan capital denouncing General Khalifa Hifter, commander of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces (LAAF), and his supporters.

Protesters gathered at Tripoli Martyrs' Square, in the centre of the capital, holding banners that read slogans such as "Hafter is the devil's messenger" and  "our blood, your hands".

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited world powers to a summit in Berlin on Sunday to discuss efforts to broker peace in Libya.

Those demonstrating in Martyrs' Square reject the decision to include Hifter in the peace talks.

One demonstrator said the current ceasefire should be an opportunity to remove Hifter, saying "we now have the power and became able to return him (Hifter) back from where he came, and I myself will not agree with any meeting nor will I be accepting any dictators."

Mass demonstrations also took place the same day in the eastern city of Benghazi in support of the LAAF.
