President Vladimir Putin's influence on everyday life in Russia spread to fashion on Friday with the launch of the first Putin-branded clothing store in Moscow.

The Putin Team store, curated by the federal Ministry of Industries and Trade, opened in a glitzy red-ribbon ceremony in the main international airport.

It sells business-casual and athletic wear in the colours of the white blue and red Russian tricolour flag, and bearing the logo "Putin Team Russia".

The general-director of the brand, Dmitry Shishkin, said he had been given the green light to launch the project by the Russian president himself during a government meeting with representatives of the manufacturing industry.

"The preparation level was much higher than for any other project due to the seriousness of the brand (name) as you can understand," he said.

The opening ceremony was attended by several Russian officials and famous athletes and musicians.

Minutes after opening, the shop began to attract its first customers.

Alexander Aleskeyev bought several items at the store including a red baseball cap with Russia's coat of arms and a navy hoodie.

"I just felt that there were good clothes in here and the ambience is very pleasant," he said.

"I'd also like to add that that I love Russia and respect the President," he added.
